FIG. 7.1 — LASER, FILTER, SPILL

Panel Designer.

Lay your markers onto your own cytometer and see, before you stain, where every colour will spill.

The fluor menu offers dyes this instrument can excite and detect — or add your own from the same menu.

Good to know

  1. Spillover here is a theoretical estimate from spectra and your filters. Real values also depend on detector voltages and laser power, so compensation always comes from single-stain controls on your instrument; spreading error is not modelled.
  2. Spectra come from published peak values.
  3. Instrument presets are published default or core-facility configurations. Facilities often swap filters — check the labels on your instrument and use EDIT FILTERS.
  4. Vendor-neutral: dyes from every supplier are listed side by side; nothing is sponsored. Peak values come from each maker's published tables.
  5. Your panels, instruments and dyes stay in this browser. Clearing site data or switching browsers loses them — export a copy if they matter.
QUESTIONS · FLOW CYTOMETRY PANEL DESIGNER

Frequently asked

Does the spillover estimate replace compensation?

No. Spillover here is a theoretical estimate from spectra and your filters. Real values also depend on detector voltages and laser power, so compensation always comes from single-stain controls on your instrument. Spreading error is not modelled.

My cytometer's filters differ from the preset. What can I do?

Facilities often swap filters. Check the labels on your instrument and use EDIT FILTERS, or add your own instrument.

Is the dye list sponsored by a vendor?

No. Dyes from every supplier are listed side by side, with peak values from each maker's published tables. Nothing is sponsored.

Where are my panels saved?

In your browser. Clearing site data or switching browsers loses them, so export a copy if they matter. You can also share a panel by link.

DETECTION
HOW TO WRITE A FILTER
530/30bandpass, centre/width → 515–545 nm 670LPlongpass, everything above 670 nm 655-730a range, as some makers print it (also for spectral channels)

The label on the filter holder is all you need. Changed one filter on a shared machine? Copy the preset and edit just that line.

Tabs, commas or semicolons all work. Replaces the lasers above.
FLUOR
HOW THE LIST WORKS

Grouped by the laser that excites each dye best, sorted by emission peak. Numbers are excitation / emission peaks in nm.

EM ONLY the maker publishes the emission peak only; the curve is a rougher guess.

MINE a dye you added. It travels with share links and exports.

IN USE already on another row of this panel.

PASTE MARKER LIST

Copy two columns straight from Excel. Fluor names are matched to the list; anything not found is left empty for you to choose.
